What type of wall do you have? The essential difference between a wall and a partition.

· Wall: It has a structural function, supporting beams, slabs, or plates. It is also called the bearing wall, generally made of concrete.

· Partition wall:: its function is to separate spaces; it is used for division and is usually made of plasterboard.

You can distinguish the two by tapping on them and seeing if they are hollow or solid. In the case of a partition wall, pay attention to the weight of the frames, as they should not exceed 4.5 kg. You will also need special dowels for plasterboard, which we will explain later.

What covers the wall or partition is called the covering or frieze, and it is also essential to know this when you hang an ornament or painting on your wall.

The most common wall coverings or friezes are:

Plaster:

Although less common nowadays, many walls still have this decorative technique. As it is not a smooth surface, it is not advisable to use double-sided or Velcro tape.

Wallpaper:

There is a wide variety of wallpaper available today. It can easily tear if the holes are not correctly drilled, or adhesive tapes are used.

Tiles:

often seen in bathrooms or kitchens. If you wish to drill a hole in it, you'll need a specific bit and dowel.

· Brick: often used in industrial or rustic decor, it also requires a special drill and nails if you want to bore it.

· Wooden panels an excellent thermal insulator that gives a warm and comfortable look.

Important: Before drilling a hole, ensure that no electrical cables or pipes are behind it. Here is a stud-finder that will be very useful.

Depending on this, choose the system you are going to use. Here are the different ways to do it and the most suitable for each.

How to hang a picture with a drill

(and make a hole in the wall)

Dressing up your place with elements that you like and make you feel identified gives it personality and a sense of coziness. Family portraits, holiday snaps, illustrations, film posters, works of art…

The safest and most resistant option to changes in temperature, wind blowing, and eventual damage is to make a hole in the wall. Then, when you get tired of a photo or a print, all you have to do is take it off and change it for another poster or canvas.

We will explain step by step how to hang a picture on the wall with a drill, but first, you should familiarize yourself with the materials we will use::

Hooks:

Pieces generally attached on the back of the paintings, allowing you to hang them on the wall. If the frame does not have them, you will have to add them, ensuring that both are at the same distance from the edge with a meter.

Dowels:

Plastic pieces used to secure the screw to the wall or piece of furniture. They are inserted once drilled, and their thickness should be proportional to the size of the bit you used.

*If you have laminated plaster (plasterboard), you will needspecial dowels.

L-hooks:

These are L-shaped pieces of metal that are screwed to the plug once inserted into the wall. They act as a support to hold the painting or any other object you wish to decor with.
Now that you know what each piece is and its use, let's prepare the workspace.

The tools you will need to make holes are the following:

· (1) A hammer to fix the dowels into the wall

· (2) A pencil to mark where to make the hole on the wall

· (3) A bit appropriate for the type of wall and the size of the hole. *The bit is the part that goes into the drill and, by turning, makes the holes in the wall

· (4) A drill

· (5) A measuring tape to calculate the distance between the holes and the paintings

2- Choose the location and set the height

If you want to place the frame on an empty wall, we recommend placing it at approximately eye level for an average person, or about 150 cm - 170 cm. If there is furniture underneath, like a sofa or a bed, leave a 15-30 cm distance between the two elements.here are some basic rules to keep in mind.
